UNID@S DÁNDOLE CARA AL SIDA
CALL TO ACTION OF ALL HIV/AIDS ACTIVISTS

As some of you know, the AIDS crisis in Puerto Rico is out of control leading into a medical and health crisis. People living with HIV/AIDS are  without medications, and it doesn't seem that this situation will be resolved in the near future.  The lack of governmental response and accountability is shameless in the face of a health crisis.  All the parties involved, from HRSA, the Commonwealth and Municipio de San Juan,  are responsible for this on-going crisis.

Because of the blatant disregard for the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and the mismanagement and irresponsibility of not following Federal reporting guidelines, funds for medications has come to a halt and people are now on waiting lists.  The potential for this to become a second crisis to the already existing problems in Puerto Rico is real. Specifically people becoming resistant to medications, migration and displacement of families in seeking health care.

Our colleagues are reaching out to all AIDS activists to help stop this injustice and lack of accountability.  They have asked that we make our voices heard and join them in stopping this injustice.  Programs on the Island are prepared to be held accountable for their work and have also asked that an independent 3rd party be brought in to investigate these matters and have received no response to their request.  HRSA needs to be  held accountable for this atrocity.

We urge you to send letters to Congress and call for an investigation into the corruption and misuse of federal funds by the government of Puerto Rico.
